What this page is for
CityLights is built from modules. Each module adds one area of work, such as bookings, expenses or housekeeping. This page lists every module installed on your system so you can switch on only what your organisation uses. Menus, dashboard cards, reports and automatic tasks of a module appear only while it is on.
The Always on section at the bottom lists the core areas that every organisation has.
Who can use it
- View the module list lets you open this page (by default Admin and Viewer).
- Switch modules on and off lets you change them (by default Admin).
- Change organisation and module settings is needed for the Settings button on a module.
- The account owner can always do everything.
How to switch a module on
- Find the module. Use the category buttons at the top to narrow the list.
- Select Switch on.
- Read the confirmation page. If the module needs other modules that are off, they are listed, and Switch on all of them turns them on in the right order.
- The module's links appear in the menu for everyone whose role allows them. Default roles automatically get the module's standard permissions.
How to switch a module off
- Select Switch off on the module's card.
- The module disappears from menus, the dashboard and search. Its automatic tasks stop for your organisation.
- Nothing is deleted. If you switch it on again later, all its data is still there.
If another module that is on depends on it, Switch off is greyed out and the card shows Used by. Switch those modules off first.

Statuses and automation
- Off: installed but hidden. Its tables exist but stay empty or untouched.
- On: visible to people whose role allows it. Switching on can also create the module's starting data, such as default categories.
- Every switch on or off is recorded in the Change history, and the other people who can manage modules get a notification.
Settings that change this page
Which modules you can switch on will depend on your licence or subscription plan once licensing is active.
FAQs
Will switching a module off lose data? No. Switching off only hides it. Removing data is a separate, deliberate action that will come later and always asks for confirmation and makes a backup.
Why don't people see the new menu? They need a role with the module's permissions. Default roles receive them automatically; custom roles must be edited in Roles and permissions.
Why is the list empty? No optional modules are installed yet on this system. They arrive with updates.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "needs these modules first" | Use Switch on and confirm switching on all of them. |
| "can't be switched off while these modules use it" | Switch off the modules listed first. |
| "can't be used together with" | Two modules do the same job in different ways. Switch the other one off first. |
| The page says 404 for a module's screen | The module is off for your organisation. |
